Hearing Aids for iPhone and Android

Modern hearing aids can connect to both iPhone and Android phones, but compatibility is not identical across brands or phone models. The best experience depends on the exact hearing aid, operating system, Bluetooth standard, and whether you want app control, direct audio streaming, or true hands-free calling.

Made for iPhone Hearing Aids

Many current hearing aids use Apple’s Made for iPhone framework for direct streaming and accessibility controls. Compatible models can stream calls, music, podcasts, navigation, and video while also connecting to a manufacturer app. Apple compatibility is generally consistent, but exact features still vary by hearing-aid model and iOS version.

Android Compatibility

Android support varies more because phone manufacturers use different hardware and software. Hearing aids may use Android ASHA, Bluetooth Classic, Bluetooth Low Energy audio, or manufacturer-specific pairing. A hearing aid can support app control on an Android phone even when direct streaming or hands-free calls are limited.

Current Phone Compatibility From Starkey, Phonak, and Signia

Starkey Omega AI

Starkey Omega AI rechargeable models support Bluetooth Low Energy audio and the My Starkey app. Starkey has added Google Fast Pair for supported Android devices, Apple compatibility, and an Auracast assistant for selecting compatible public broadcasts. My Starkey can manage programs, streaming, reminders, wellness tools, Edge Mode+, and TeleHear features on compatible products.

Phonak Infinio Ultra

Phonak Infinio Ultra uses universal Bluetooth connectivity and works with most Bluetooth devices that support hands-free calling and media streaming profiles. Phonak states that Infinio Ultra can pair with up to eight devices and maintain two simultaneous connections. The myPhonak app requires compatible iOS or Android software and provides battery status, custom programs, Bluetooth setup, Tap Control on selected models, and remote support.

Signia Integrated Xperience

Signia IX connectivity depends on the exact model. Pure Charge&Go IX products may support Made for iPhone, Android ASHA, Bluetooth Low Energy audio, or Bluetooth Classic. Pure Charge&Go BCT IX is specifically designed for Bluetooth Classic connectivity, broad phone compatibility, hands-free calls, and music streaming. The Signia app provides remote control, Signia Assistant, and TeleCare support.

App Control vs. Audio Streaming

These are separate functions. App control changes volume, programs, directionality, or preferences. Audio streaming sends calls and media into the hearing aids. A phone may support one function but not the other. Pairing screens may also show more than one hearing-aid entry because app and audio connections can use different Bluetooth profiles.

Hands-Free Calling

Some hearing aids use their own microphones to transmit your voice, allowing the phone to stay in a pocket. Others stream the caller’s voice but still rely on the phone microphone. Phonak Infinio Ultra and Signia Pure Charge&Go BCT IX support hands-free calling with compatible phones. Starkey capability depends on the hearing-aid style, phone, and current software support.

Phone Updates and Compatibility

Major iOS or Android updates can affect pairing, permissions, apps, and streaming. Keep the manufacturer app current and check the official compatibility list before buying a new phone. A newer phone is not automatically more compatible if it uses a different Bluetooth implementation.

Accessibility Features

Phones may also provide live captions, visual alerts, call text, sound recognition, and hearing-device controls. These features can supplement hearing aids and may be valuable even for users who do not stream frequently.

Pairing and Troubleshooting

Use the instructions for the exact hearing aid. Phonak Infinio Ultra pairing is different from earlier Phonak generations, and Signia BCT IX pairing differs from other Signia products. If calls or streaming stop working, restart the phone and hearing aids before removing connections. See our troubleshooting page for safe first steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my current phone work with new hearing aids?

Possibly, but compatibility must be checked by exact phone model, operating system, hearing aid, and feature.

Are iPhones better for hearing aids?

Apple provides a consistent hearing-device framework, but current Android phones can also offer excellent compatibility. The hearing-aid model matters more than the phone brand alone.

Can hearing aids connect to both a phone and tablet?

Many can remember several devices. Phonak Infinio Ultra can keep two devices connected at once, while other products use different switching rules.

Do I need a smartphone?

No. Hearing aids continue to function without a smartphone.

Can you help pair my phone?

Yes. Bring the phone, hearing aids, charger, and app-store credentials needed for setup.
